AEROSMITH Guitarist Performs With KATY PERRY At 'MTV Video Music Awards'
September 14, 2009AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry and singer-songwriter Katy Perry (no relation) joined forces last night (Sunday, September 13) to perform QUEEN's classic anthem "We Will Rock You" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Watch video footage of their appearance below.
As previously reported, Joe Perry has set October 6 as the release date for his latest solo effort, "Have Guitar, Will Travel". Perry's touring band, THE JOE PERRY PROJECT, will play at the Viper Room in Hollywood, California on that date, with more shows to be announced soon. Perry told The Pulse of Radio what he wanted to accomplish with the record. "It's all done live in the studio, and we just, we really made an effort to give it some of the texture and the feel of the records that we grew up with — those records, like, from the late '60s," he said. "There was so much feel to them, and so much heart and texture, that's what we went into the recording with — that attitude."
The first single from "Have Guitar, Will Travel" is "We've Got A Long Way To Go".
Vocals on the disc are handled by Perry and an unknown German singer named Hagen, who was found on YouTube by Perry's wife Billie.
Perry's last solo album, a self-titled effort, came out in 2005. His three previous solo outings, all under the JOE PERRY PROJECT banner, came out during the first half of the Eighties while he was out of AEROSMITH for a few years.
AEROSMITH was forced to cancel its summer tour after a string of bad luck that concluded with singer Steven Tyler falling off a stage in Sturgis, South Dakota, injuring his head, neck and collarbone. Guitarist Brad Whitford and bassist Tom Hamilton also missed time due to medical issues.
